Meet Our Highland Cows
Our Highland cows are undoubtedly the stars of the show.
With their shaggy coats, impressive horns and gentle nature, visitors travel from across Scotland and beyond to meet them. Despite what many people think, both male and female Highland cows have horns!
You’ll spot them grazing in the fields around the farm and, if you’d like to get even closer, you can join one of our Highland Cow Experiences, where you’ll enjoy a trailer ride through the farm before meeting the cows up close and even feeding some of our younger Highland cattle.

Meet the Goats
The goats are some of the biggest characters on the farm.
Curious, friendly and always hoping visitors might have some feed, they’re often the first animals to come over and say hello.
Goats are excellent climbers and are famous for exploring places they probably shouldn’t. If the goats could talk, they’d probably tell you that fences are more of a suggestion than a rule.
Meet the Sheep
Sheep are a huge part of life on the farm.
Fenwick keeps woolshedding sheep, a breed that naturally sheds its fleece without needing shearing. This helps reduce handling and reflects how farming continues to evolve and adapt.
Many visitors are fascinated to learn that sheep can recognise other sheep and even remember faces.
Depending on the time of year, you may spot lambs, ewes and the rest of the flock grazing across the farm.
Meet the Saler Cattle
Alongside our Highland cows, you’ll also find our Saler cattle.
These hardy animals are known for their strong mothering instincts and their ability to thrive in the Scottish climate.
They’re an important part of the farm and help visitors understand the different types of cattle raised here in the Borders.
We find they have a great mothering instinct which means they are protective over their newborn calves and nurse them well.
Meet the Poultry
Our chickens and ducks are often the first animals visitors meet when they arrive.
They provide fresh eggs for both our family and visitors and are endlessly entertaining to watch.
For younger children especially, chickens are often the perfect introduction to farm animals as they’re fascinating without being intimidating.
Depending on the time of year, you may even spot chicks or ducklings around the farm.

Our pigs are always popular with visitors, particularly when there are piglets around.
Intelligent, curious and surprisingly playful, pigs are often far more interactive than people expect.
