If you’re looking to see baby Highland cows in Scotland or planning a family day out in the Scottish Borders this May, Jacksons at Jedburgh offers a unique Highland cow experience you won’t forget.
Spring is one of the best times to visit the farm, as this year’s newest arrivals begin to explore their surroundings – and trust us, they’re already full of personality.
Say Hello to This Year’s Baby Highland Cows
Every year, we welcome a new group of fluffy, curious (and slightly chaotic) baby Highland cows – and they quickly become the stars of the show.
Each calf has its own personality:
- The confident one who thinks they’re in charge
- The shy one who keeps their distance (until snacks appear)
- The playful one causing mischief
- And of course… the one with the best fringe
Seeing these baby Highland cows in Scotland up close, in a real farm setting, is what makes spring visits so special.

Our Highland cow experience in the Scottish Borders is designed to be relaxed, memorable, and suitable for all ages.
If you’d like a full breakdown before booking, you can also explore our dedicated Highland cow experience page for more details.
Here’s what your visit typically looks like:
The Trailer Ride
Start your visit with a tractor and trailer ride across the farm – fresh air, wide open views, and a chance to properly switch off.
Meet the Highland Cows
You’ll arrive at the field where both the adults and calves are grazing. We’ll guide you through the experience and share a bit about each of them.
Meet Last Year’s Calves Up Close
After the trailer ride out to the field to see the cows, we then head into the shed to meet last year’s calves. This is where things get a bit more hands-on. You’ll have the chance to get closer, feed them, give them a scratch, and really get a feel for their personalities. It’s often a favourite part of the experience, especially for children (and anyone who can’t resist a fluffy Highland coo up close!).
Photo Opportunities
This is what many people come for – the setting, the animals, and the chance to capture something genuinely special.
Time to Take It All In

A Little Story from the Farm
We always say Highland cows are friendly – and then there’s Bonnie.
Bonnie was a bottle-reared twin from 2025, and she quickly became one of the firm favourites here at Jacksons at Jedburgh.
Sometimes on the farm, twins mean mum simply can’t produce enough milk for both calves, or one might be a little weaker and need extra support. In those cases, we step in, and that’s where bottle-feeding comes in. It gives calves like Bonnie the best possible start and makes sure they grow strong and healthy.
Because of that early care, Bonnie became incredibly people-friendly. She’d wander straight over looking for attention, give you a gentle nudge if you stopped fussing her, and happily follow along as if she was part of the team.
Confident, curious, and full of character, she’s a brilliant example of just how friendly Highland cows can be, especially those that have been hand-reared!

Are Highland Cows friendly?
Highland cows are generally known for being calm, gentle, and friendly animals, which is one of the reasons people love meeting them so much.
They have a naturally relaxed temperament and are used to living outdoors in herds, often with plenty of human interaction on working farms like Jacksons at Jedburgh.
That said, like any animal, they should always be treated with respect and care.
- They are protective of their calves, especially in spring
- They prefer calm, quiet behaviour rather than loud or sudden movements
- They are large animals, so it’s important to follow guidance when visiting
On a Highland cow experience, you’ll be guided safely so you can enjoy seeing them up close, learn about their personalities, and understand how to interact with them properly.
